Premiered in 2012 by Winter Circle Productions, the Buku Music + Art Project has established itself as the premier progressive music and arts festival in New Orleans and the Gulf Coast region. For those tired of the mega-festival and wanting an intimate setting with close stage views and clear/loud audio, BUKU fills that void. The location’s post-industrial vibe fits perfectly with BUKU’s fusion of EDM, hip-hop and various sub-genres of indie rock. Paying homage to the NOLA setting, BUKU features local food vendors, indigenous art exhibits and dozens of regional support acts playing stage changeover sets. In addition to the outdoor stage with the power plant backdrop and the ballroom stage, BUKU 2013 will feature an additional stage positioned in a warehouse in which all of the Mardi Gras floats are manufactured. We’ll leave some crazy float pieces in there and trick it out to create a completely unique BUKU experience. This means more music in three totally different environments. And all stages will still be within a few minute walk of each other. BUKU has released its initial artist lineup and it once again features some of the top names in EDM, hip-hop and indie rock, including: Kid Cudi, Calvin Harris, Primus 3D, Passion Pit, Kendrick Lamar, STS9 (2 sets), NERO, Flux Pavilion, Zedd, Major Lazer, Best Coast, Big Gigantic, Datsik, Dillon Francis, R3hab, Alt-J, Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs, Earl Sweatshirt, Starfucker, Lettuce, Flosstradamus, RAC, Aeroplane, Shlohmo, St. Lucia, JMSN, Poolside, Big Freedia, Hundred Waters, Break Science, Nicky Da B, Brown & Gammon, Buku, Gravity A, Coyotes, Shanook, Christoph Anderson, Unicorn Fukr and Kid Kamillion.
